This site provides a convenient way to make available a number of articles that I’ve written over the years reflecting my interests in the history of scrip, local currencies, emergency monies, political/satirical “funny money”, and other types of financial ephemera. Most of these pieces have appeared in Paper Money, the journal of the Society of Paper Money Collectors (SPMC). Others have appeared in history journals, an edited volume, and on my blog at the SPMC website. More recently I have begun researching and writing on the currency-like emissions of private companies, such as the premium coupons of the United Cigar Stores Co.
